The Fan Is Spinning. Do You Have What You Need?

the fan is spinning, do you have what you need new blog post by doc jones

People often talk about the poop hitting the fan. But that talk is typically quite hypothetical. After all, what could really happen?

Humans are very subject to what psychologists call the “Normalcy Bias”. We tend to think that the world we live in will always be as it has been during our own experience. But history tells a very different story. If there is any lesson that history can give us it’s this…things can change.

This generation has had a taste of that with the global Covid-19 pandemic. One day the world was as it had always been (at least in our very limited experience) and the next it was very different. Hospitals were over-run. People were dying. Businesses were shuttered and the government was issuing mandates and dictums no one would have dreamed of a year before. The effects of the the virus and the response to the virus have been economically disastrous for many in this country. Closures of businesses caused interruptions in the supply chain and availability of resources for nearly every product and process.

And what caused all of that chaos and bedlam? A virus which, though it had devastating effects for many, had fairly low lethality for most of those infected. What if it had been a worse virus?

In 1939 Adolf Hitler looked out his window one morning and thought. “Hmmmm, I’d like to own Poland.” He held his finger up to the wind and what did he find? Weakness, apathy and political posturing in those that might have opposed him. So what did he do? He invaded Poland. And what did the leaders of the world’s other countries do? The wrung their hands and wagged their fingers and made speeches about how rude it was of Hitler to kill thousands and take a country that wasn’t his. Shame on him!

And what was Hitler’s response to the crickets chirping about his expansion? He looked out another window and said “Hmmm, I’guess I’ll take all of Europe. After all, no one seems to mind if I expand my borders.” The Blitzkrieg that followed swallowed up Europe so quickly that it was astounding. Emperor Hirohito in Japan was watching and followed suit. He began to expand his invasion of territory in the Pacific and bombed Pearl Harbor in an attempt to stop the United States from getting in his way.

The resulting world war caused 75 to 80 million fatalities. Most of those fatalities were civilians. And a week before it started, no one would have guessed it ever would.

Now, we look at the present. Vladimir Putin looked out his window and thought it would be nice to own the Ukraine. Would any of us have anticipated that he’d roll his tanks in to take it? In the past week or so, millions of Ukrainian refugees have fled the advancing armies of Russia. How many of those folks do you suppose thought they’d be fleeing their demolished homes the week before it happened?

History is full of these sorts of unexpected catastrophes. Famine, war and disease raise their ugly heads suddenly and without warning and the results are devastating. We’ve seen it before. And, unfortunately, at some point we will certainly see it again.

I’d advise that we, as a culture, stop spending our free time binging NetFlix and fussing about Facebook and start focusing more on preparing to care for our loved ones in the case of unexpected disasters. And while it’s true that most of us can’t afford a fully-outfitted, bug-out bunker in the mountains, understand that ANYTHING we do is better than nothing.

Can’t afford a year’s worth of food storage? Start with a week’s worth.

Don’t have a place to store 500 gallons of gasoline? At least keep your car’s tank topped off.

What if we get into another pandemic and this time it’s worse? Are you going to want to take your child to the ER to treat his cut and have him catch the plague in the waiting room? Or, would you be better off knowing how to treat it yourself at home?

It would be a really good idea to have some resources on hand. My wife and I have 15 children. During the thirty years that we raised them we had, if I recall correctly, three doctor visits with those children. One was for a teenager that had a seizure one day for no particular reason. The other was for one of my Haitian kids who suddenly erupted with blisters all over his hands and feet. I thought he might have an exciting tropical vesicular disease so I took him in. Turns out it was just the cold sore virus having fun. The third was a cute little daughter that had a quarrel with a peanut butter jar and needed some stitches. If she’d been a bit older, I’d have done it myself. But it wasn’t the apocalypse and I thought she’d enjoy a bit of sedation for the occasion. Everything else was successfully managed at home with weeds growing in our yard or herbs from the cupboard. The fact is that if you have a little knowledge and some basic herbal tools, the vast majority of your family’s common health problems can be resolved easily at home.

So, how do you get that knowledge and those tools?

Glad you asked! :0)

At HomeGrown Herbalist our principle purpose is to provide folks with the things they need to get through tough times. Please take a little time to look over our tincture offerings and emergency kits. Think about what you might need in a crisis and then get some so you’ll have it on hand. Tinctures have excellent shelf life and will still be good when that “rainy day” you’ve saved them for finally comes.

Also, please think very hard about acquiring the knowledge you need to use the plants that surround you. God has given you abundant resources for food and medicine. It’d be a shame not to know how to use those resources. The HomeGrown Herbalist School of Botanical Medicine is vastly less expensive than most herbal education programs and is an excellent resource. Heck, you could easily spend more than the price of enrollment in the school for a decent hunting rifle or a TV set or iPhone.

The fact is, we can always find a way to afford the things we want. The tricky part is wanting the things we really need.

Life is full of trials. Whether those trials are personal or global, getting through them can be a lot smoother if if we’ve done a little preparing. Now is the time. Because a week after the trial starts, things are very different.

So, what Herbs formulas should one have on hand?

Here’s a list of 15 items I think everyone

would do well to have in their emergency storage:

It is a shame that not one person knew what to do for the babies in Winter Quarters who died of scurvy with the weeds all around them.

    • Dr. Patrick Jones says:

That’s really true. Something as simple as pine needle tea (Or any number of other things) could have saved their lives.
A little knowledge can be an extraordinarily powerful tool.

        • Dr. Patrick Jones says:

To my knowledge, most North American pines are very similar. That said, I’d want to check the literature for safety data on each one before using it.

  2. Angie says:

Thanks so much for all you do to help people be knowledgeable and independent! That is why you are the herbalist I always refer people to!

  3. Shannon Steffler says:

I’m so happy I finally bought the course! It feels like I’ve wanted this for 10 years. Not sure it’s actually been that long but it’s finally time. I finished nursing school almost 2 years ago and I’m adjusting to work life balance. Now I can enjoy what I’m learning so far. Now to get making stuff for my family of 8!

    • Dr. Patrick Jones says:

We’re glad to have you aboard Shannon. :0)
I’m glad your putting it to good use getting some stuff prepared for the kiddos.

  4. RedBlueSpice says:

Thank you! You always have wisdom, common sense, and it always brings me peace with a good dose of laughter in-between!! I am very grateful to be in the school.

  5. Sharon Johnson says:

Thank you for your wisdom. Just finished the Homegrown Herbalist course and want to thank you for all the knowledge I’ve gained. I would highly recommend this course to everyone. You are a blessing to the world!

    • Dr. Patrick Jones says:

      Congrats on finishing up Sharon.
We’re going to be adding some really remarkable stuff to the school very soon so don’t be a stranger. There’s a reason I give students lifetime access. :0)

      • Mary Sunshine says:

Doctor Jones can you give us an average time in hours that it takes the Average person to complete the Home Grown Herbalist School?

        • Dr. Patrick Jones says:

There are about 50 “Core lessons” that need to be done to receive the certificate of completion. They’ll take an hour or two each. IF you do one a week you’ll be done in a year. If you do ten a week…well, you can do the math. :0)

There are also about that many supplemental lessons and videos. You’ll have lifetime access to the school and there are no time constraints of any kind. Do it at your own speed. Life’s a journey, not a race. :0)

    Hi Doc,
I am a new student and have bought a bunch of your tinctures. They all have an expiration date of 2-3 years. I remember you saying in a webinar that we will die before the tinctures expire. I am sure that you are required by law to put an expiration date…..but can we assume that they will be good for a long time?
    Thanks,
    Urmila

    • Dr. Patrick Jones says:

We are required by law to put a date on everything. Alcohol is a remarkable preservative. The dates on the bottle are just for the government because they know best. BTW, when the government comes to confiscate your preparedness supplies because you’re a naughty hoarder and ought to share, be sure to show them that all the tinctures are expired. LOL

  7. Mark says:

Enjoying the course very much. Similar thinking and I really like your practical approach. Just starting but so far incredible.

  8. Sandra says:

I recently received my certificate for completing the course too! I was so happy when it arrived in the mail, and I loved the wax seal with your Homegrown Herbalist logo – very nice touch! My grandson even said he can’t wait to see it framed, too. I really enjoyed the course — since I have a full-time job it took a while to work through it, but I enjoyed each class and can highly recommend it. I keep checking back for new materials and plant walks and I know I will continue to do so since there is so much to absorb — I started as a beginner as far as knowledge of the actual plants. But I have such a sense of accomplishment, and this course has been so fulfilling for me. Thank you, Dr Jones!

  9. Thresa says:

Doc, just got to say You are the best. I love learning about herbs and their ability to heal, as God gave us the tools to take care of ourselves if we would only learn. YOU ROCK.
I love the school, not quite finished yet but love the modules.

  10. Deanne says:

I completely agree with the message of this article – we need to be as prepared as possible for as many scenarios as we can think of.

Unfortunately, history is pretty tangled. Very often, the “good guys” are nearly as rotten as the “bad guys.” (Evidence indicates FDR knew about the coming attack on Pearl Harbor and did nothing. Also unfortunately, the U. S. A., despite its reputation of being “a free country,” has been involved in horrific things (scientific experiments on humans, bio lab research, false flag attacks, and more… ) for a very long time. This may even have something to do with what is going on in Ukraine right now.

Ron Paul talks about blowback. The U. S. has been asking for trouble and stirring up trouble for a long time. Our intelligence agencies are corrupt to the core. Our military can go blow up or “intervene” in countries all over the world. If the men who (supposedly) hit the twin towers were from Saudi Arabia, why did we kill Iraqis and Afghanis instead of going to the source? (Just for the record, I am unconvinced of the government narrative on that event.)

In the current situation, it may very well be that the Ukrainians are the fall guys for U. S. meddling this time around. Next time we may have to take the punishment ourselves.

Whatever the case, we do need to be prepared as much as possible. This includes knowledge as well as stores of useful items. One of the best resources for both is the HomeGrown Herbalist.

I thoroughly appreciate you, Doc, and your info and experience! Question: Have you looked at the interview w/ Dr Ardis on BitChute? called Watch the Water. Huge info on a lot of stuff…including how the treatments in the “big boxes with beds ” where sick people go have been handled; what the blood looks like after folks have had the illness; what reptile, in nature, has the exact action on the body of humans….etc.
