When There is No Doctor!

For the past three decades or so, I’ve been practicing as a veterinarian. Early in my career I discovered the powerful healing benefits of medicinal plants. Herbs have been a part of my daily practice ever since. I’ve used them for treating gunshot wounds, rattlesnake bites, gangrene, kidney stones, anxiety, serious infections, and about every other type of physical or mental health problem you can think of. Eventually I went to naturopathy school (because I didn’t have enough to do LOL) and set up a practice for human clients as well. So…if you were a dog, you went to the vet clinic…if you were only sick as a dog you went to the naturopathy office.
After all these years of addressing conditions in animals and in humans I’m still using herbs.
Why?
Because they work!
Herbs have remarkable curative powers that often can’t be found in pharmaceuticals. There are plants that will accelerate wound and fracture healing, restore damaged organs, draw toxins from the body, balance the gut micro-biome and a number of other things that synthetic medications can’t do. Herbs can also do things pharmaceutical medications can do like breaking fevers, stopping pain, killing infections, and almost anything else you can take a drug for. In some cases pharmaceuticals or surgery are more effective and are the best course, but not in nearly as many cases as one might expect. Herbs really can and do help resolve a number of issues more naturally, more pleasantly and more permanently than modern medicine can.
Lately I’ve been wondering what the world would be like if we all woke up and there were no urgent care clinics, no pharmacies and no emergency rooms. The Covid-19 crisis has shown how dependent our culture is on the Just In Time inventory system. Nine months into the pandemic we find it’s pretty tough to buy a number of things simply because many factories were closed down for a time due to the illness. The pause in manufacturing stopped the supply chain immediately.
So, what will we do if the companies that make the medications our society needs shut down for the apocalypse? What will we do if there is a local disaster and emergency responders are spread too thin to help us? What will we do if we are out in the boondocks on a hunting or camping trip and there is an emergency?
Well I’d say we’d better have some alternatives.
With that concern in mind, I’ve created a series of lessons entitled When There Is No Doctor!
The program is the equivalent of three days of seminars and workshops. We couldn’t have the actual seminars and workshops because of the pandemic…which seems eerily appropriate for some reason. So, instead of making folks cross state lines in their face masks and sit in a room full people that were scared to breath with each other, I decided to put the entire program on a digital format. There are lectures, demonstrations and even a several-hours long plant walk.
Some of the topics are things I’ve taught in the HomeGrown Herbalist School for years. Some of the information is brand new. My intent is to help people be prepared for serious emergencies in a scenario where there is no doctor. Every community in crisis should have people that can look at a vacant lot covered with weeds and see a botanical pharmacy. If you feel impressed to be one of those people who is able to bless the lives of your family, loved ones and community, I hope you’ll join us. If you’re reading this blog post, you probably have an interest in medicinal plants already. If you don’t learn this material so that you can step forward and help when there is no doctor…who will?
If you aren’t able to do the program, get some books, go to our YouTube Channel, or find a local mentor that can get you started on your journey. Do what you can when you can. Every step you take on this path will be a step in the right direction so that someday you can be of help when there is no doctor.

I am waiting for the second stimulus so that I will have the funds to pay for the Online program. Due to Covid financial hardship plus my physical hardship due to 2 chronic illnesses and being handicapped I have to wait til I have the $700 to pay for the online program. I am so excited about this – currently downloading material. I always wanted to attend a workshop/plant walk in person but… The timing of this digital release is perfect with all that is going on and with everything we went through with Covid. Thank you Dr Jones for helping me to make sure my family and neighbors are covered no matter what!

My family with small children recently moved into poisonous snake country. I am working through these lectures. I have made the snake/spider tincture and poultice, but was only able to buy echinacea leaf at that time (not root). Will it still be as effective?
The leaf of Echinacea is the weakest part of the plant. Flower is quite good but the root is the strongest. I happily use flower for most things. But for snake bites, I use the root.
