Description :
Hyssop is an evergreen, bushy, perennial herb in the mint family with a square, green, woody stem and leaves that grow on opposite sides of the stem. It is native to southern Europe but has been naturalized worldwide. The flowers range in color from pink to blue to lavender, and (rarely) white.
History and Folklore:
Hyssop is an officinalis which means the ancient Greeks kept it in their apothecary for use as a medicine. Hyssop has been hung in homes to provide protection from the evil eye, and from witches.
Cultivation and Harvest:
Harvest the aerial portions of the Hyssop plant just as it is going to flower. Cut if off just above the woody stem, then dry it and grind it for use in teas, tinctures, capsules, and so on.
Precautions:
Do not use while pregnant or nursing.
