Description :
Rosemary is a member of the mint family native to the Mediterranean and naturalized worldwide. As a member of the mint family, is has square stems and opposing leaves. The inch-long leaves are evergreen, grow off of multiple stalks or sprigs, and look a lot like pine needles. Rosemary flowers are blueish purple in color. It likes rich, well-drained soil, but can grow well in a window pot as well. Although widely used as a culinary herb, Rosemary has medicinal properties as well. Internally, tinctures of Rosemary are supportive of cognitive issues and memory. It has also been used as a germ killer by the French in WWII.
History and Folklore:
In olden times, women hung sprigs of Rosemary above their doorways to keep out evil spirits. It is also used to make the liqueurs Benedictine and Danziger Goldwasser.
Cultivation and Harvest:
Harvest Rosemary by cutting the top portion from a sprig during the spring or summer months while the plant is actively growing. This allows the plant to continue to grow into the fall. Strip the leaves off of the branch to dry for future use.

Do not use while pregnant. Do not take if breastfeeding.
