The Olive tree is an evergreen that is native to the Mediteranian region, but has been successfully grown in California, Texas and Arizona. A mature tree isn’t very tall, often has a wide, irregular, twisted and cracked trunk. The leaves are oblong, tapering to points at both the base and the tip. Olive leaves grow opposite each other on the branch and grow to about 8 inches long. The leaf is whitish on the underside and bright green on the top. The leaves have a strong bitter taste. The flowers are very small and grow in clusters. They have four white petals and a strong fragrance. The flowers have the calyx and the corolla in one piece, with very short tube and the limb divided into four lobes. Teas and extracts of olive leaf were historically used in biblical times for reducing fever, treating herpes, helping with cardiovascular disease, as an antioxidant, and an anti-inflammatory.
